Article: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6420 + Asus® P5B Deluxe (50% OC)

I made another quick testing of the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6420, but the difference of this fun run from my previous benchmark is that I am using it on a more mainstream motherboard Asus® P5B Deluxe, nVidia 7900GTX, and Apacer 2x1GB DDR2-800MHz Value RAM. And oh, the benchie is already overclocked to 50%, that is, the motherboard runs at 400MHz FSB from the nominal 266MHz. By the way, you can also check a more comprehensive benching og processors here. Expand for more...

.::Test Set Up::.
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6420(2.13GHz)
Asus® P5B Deluxe BIOS 1004
nVidia 7900GTX 512MB v93.71
Apacer 2x1GB DDR2-800MHz CL4 Value RAM
Seagate* Barracuda 120GB SATA (single drive)
Delta 650W EPS12V (server grade)
Windows XP SP2 (Fresh Install)
No chassis

All screenshots are here. CPU-Z Validation is here.

.::Overclocking Notes::.
Only stock cooler is used in this overclocking test. No modification is done on the board or fan. Do note that vCore is set at 1.26v, however, the motherboard's settings is changed manually, since leaving the settings at Auto tends to make the motherboard pump more than 1.5v on the CPU which will produce crazy temperatures on the processor. The 1.26v is achieved by selecting the lowest possible vCore allowable by the motherboard to simulate stock or lower than stock vCore.

Also, Asus® P5B Deluxe might be playing on the bootstrap on itself, and may actually be using 1333MHz bootstrap, I can not tell for sure as I haven't done any further investigation, and just ran these systems "as it is". If this is the case, score would be lower for such clock speed and memory timing.

There is no tweak whatsoever done on the operating system, no LOD changes, it's a typical average-user Microsoft* Windows XP installation. I did run the CrapCleaner though, to clean up the registry, but no defragmentation is done on hard drive. That aside, here's the final settings:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6420@3.2GHz
Asus® P5B Deluxe@400MHz FSB
Apacer 2x1GB DDR2-800MHz@800MHz@1:1

I never used CoreTemp, even the latest beta makes my system reboot whever I launch this software, so I am using the latest version of SpeedFan which can read the digital thermal sensor of Conroe-based processors.

So that's all for now FanBoyz, hope this one helps!
