Press Release: Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme NEWS Release

I guess this is inevitable, Thermalright released their newest cooler to the public. I always love their design, simple but effective. Check out the full Press Release...

Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme NEWS Release

In 2006, Thermalright released the Ultra-120 and ever since then it's been classified as one of the top air cooling heatsinks for many high end systems. With its large cooling capacity, vast compatibility across multiple platforms, and easy installation; it's easy to see why. But at Thermalright, it's never our intention to stop when success has been reached, so we keep pushing the envelope. In 2007, Intel and AMD came out with new quad core CPUs and our response? Ultra-120 eXtreme!!

Ultra-120 eXtreme inherited all the advantages of its predecessor and increased its ability to absorb heat faster and better by having 6 heatpipes. It doesn't matter which processor you use; a Socket 775 processor (single core, Core 2 Extreme or Core 2 Quad) there is nothing our Ultra-120 eXtreme cannot handle. Of course, that also applies to all Socket AM2 processors. Just as for Intel platforms, the Ultra-120 eXtreme also includes spring loaded bolt screws to ensure a tight and secure heatsink installation on the socket.

In addition, we took care of the concerns expressed by our users in regards to Ultra-120 backplate. For the eXtreme version, we added a non-conductive plastic padding to shield all electrical contact in preventing a short circuitry. So go ahead and choose any type of motherboard you want; whether chips by Intel or Nvidia's 680i series. It is sure to be safe with Ultra-120 eXtreme.

Right before this formal announcement of Ultra-120 eXtreme, it was tested by one of the most revered hardware sites as they validated our claim that you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars when the Ultra-120 eXtreme can cool your CPU just as good, if not better, than your average water-cooling system.

So you think your current heatsink cooler has reached its limit? Thinking about switching to water cooling? Before you do anything, test out an Ultra-120 eXtreme. You will see that records are meant to be broken as new records and standards are set.

Press Release: Thermalright HR-09 NEWS

I am not too fond of this cooler, but hey, it looks like it's going to be useful. If you are overclocker who likes to push things, this might be something you'd like to add on your mosfets. Check it out...

Thermalright HR-09 NEWS

As many hardware enthusiasts would know, there are three major heat sources from your computer system; CPU, north and south bridge chipset, and PWN-IC which is also known as MOSFET.

The increasing density of MOSFETs on an integrated circuit is creating problems of localized heat generation that can impair circuit operation. Circuits operate slower at high temperatures, and have reduced reliability and shorter lifetimes. MOSFETs are at risk of thermal runaway. As their on-state resistance rises with temperature, the power loss on the junction rises correspondingly, generating further heat resulting in destruction of the device.

For the above reasons, many motherboards now have their own heatpipe cooling system designed by the motherboard manufacturers. But during our research test, we found out that the northbridge chipset can run especially hot and when you increase voltage, the temperature increased many times over. The heatpipe cooling system just does not have enough surface area to cool those hot devices equally AND sufficiently.

Many end-users also have written to us in regards to the above issue. They got tired of gimmicks and low grade thermal solutions. What they needed was something real, something that actually cools the MOSFET, and so we went to work and developed a new product called HR-09 (from High-Riser series) MOSFET cooler.

The HR-09 MOSFET cooler with its patented design will expand your system’s life expectancy and creates a stable condition not only during normal operation but also when you increase the frequency and voltage to overclock. Now heat is no more an issue.

The HR-09 comes in two distinctive designs and types (sold separately); HR-09U and HR-09S. The difference lies in positioning and orientation of the fins and heatpipe. For HR-09U, which fits most major motherboards, sits upright. It is the choice when you have no obstacles to hinder the installation of HR-09U. As for HR-09S, which sits at a slant angle, would be the choice when you have a big CPU heatsink such as the SI-128 and have limited space on your motherboard. But whatever the choice you make between HR-09U and HR-09S, know that you have nothing but the best quality and performance…now working for your MOSFET.

Tech Link (Cooler): Big Typhoon Squared: Cooler Master GeminII Review

XbitLabs busy themselves and reviewed the latest and greatest from Coolermaster*, the GeminII. The author seems mighty impressed with the cooler, and even post further improvements to the product. I wanted this one too, but unfortunately, I am out of $$$. Oh well, if you are luckier than me and has money to burn, check it out.

Conclusion
Our today’s tests indicate that overclockers have got another very effective and very quiet air cooler. The Cooler Master GeminII is already selling at a price not much different from the recommended one.

There are only two drawbacks about the new product: no fans included into the package and its limited compatibility with mainboards for AMD processors. The former drawback can be solved easily, but the latter is more serious. I hope the manufacturer will perfect the Socket AM2/939 fastening in such a way that the cooler could be oriented on the CPU socket in the best possible position.

Big weight? It’s not a problem as the GeminII uses threaded fastening through the mainboard which just can be more reliable. The mainboard has to be taken out of the system case to install the cooler, but you have to do the same with every super-cooler, except for Scythe’s (but I should add that the GeminII lacks a back-plate for LGA775 and the mainboard bends under the pressure). Size? The cooler fits into the system case perfectly and does not press against the components around the CPU socket. It does not exhaust hot air outside, but its design just doesn’t imply that.

The rest are indisputable advantages. The GeminII is highly effective and very quiet. It cools the near-socket space on the mainboard. It is not more expensive than its opponents, even including the cost of two fans. And it is already available for purchase! Very good news!

Where could the GeminII progress further? I would suggest the following:

* Remove the top rigidity bars from the fan plate to reduce resistance to airflow
* To reduce the same resistance more, the top edge of the ribbing could be made serrated
* Include fans into the package by default, perhaps fans with speed adjustment up to 2500rpm (this would please an extreme overclocker, but would be useless for those who choose silence)
* Make the heat pipes the same diameter as in the Enzotech Ultra-X (and perhaps use fewer of them)
* Polish the base better

So, I think there is still some work Cooler Master’s engineers might do to make this super-cooler even better than it currently is.

Tech Link (Cooler): Scythe Infinity HeatPipe CPU Cooler

After the success of their Ninja series, Scythe* seems to be unrelentless in developing newer, bigger, better coolers. It could be because they are already feeling the pressures from competition, namely, Thermalright*, Thermaltake* and Zalman* to name a few. Let's just hope they'll be affordable, as the massive 10-heatpipe cooler is nothing short of a monster cooler.

The Scythe SCINF-1000 is a huge cooler. Scythe themselves have a huge reputation to live up to. Will the Scythe Infinity match that reputation and perform well when used with a Conroe CPU? I take it to the test in the following review and see how it fares.

Scythe have made quite an impression of late in the cooling market. Their line of CPU coolers are really (pardon the pun) "hotting up" the heatsink market. With some great designs and more than a couple of heatpipes, enthusiasts are really digging what Scythe are all about.

Tech Link (Coolers): Scythe Mi-ne Multi-Socketed Heatsink Review

The folks over at VR-Zone are having a merry time testing a cool heatsink from Scythe. What is great about this cooler is that it fits both older Chipzilla Socket478 processor as well as the newer LGA775 based CPU.
Images owned by VR Zone

The cooler seems to perform better against Thermalright* XP90C as well, and can cool even the mighty Intel® Pentium® 955 Extreme Edition using the same fan across the coolers. Wow, I am quickly becoming a huge fan of this cooler. While I like the Thermaltake BT*, I really hate the mounting style. Here's a snippet from the review:

As we all know, there're a thousand and one heatsinks available out in the market currently and anyone who wants to venture into the enthusiast cooling market will definitely have a headache choosing a heatsink that's suitable for them. Many brands have managed to carve a niche in this very specialised component cooling market, with significant examples like Thermalright, Zalman and the like. In the last few years, we have not seen many companies who have managed to enter this market successfully.

Press Release: Thermalright HR-01 Passive Cooling

Oh, my brat clients would probably be drooling about this cooler once I get my early samples next year. I'll be stocking a few, and keep one myself, well, that is if reviews proved it to be better than my XP-90 which has stood me the test of time due to easy installation, good performance, and light-weight design. Screw those after-market coolers that require you to remove the motherboard.

People who live in densely populated areas, such as Manhattan or Hong Kong deal with the need to expand without the land to do it, but expand they do. How do they do it? Hint: Think upwards. Yes, those high rise buildings! If you can't expand horizontally, you go vertically!! That means up, up, up!

With that in mind, we applied the same principle to our newest product. It is designed to work on any AMD S754/939/940, Intel Socket 478, and Intel LGA775 systems.

Introducing the new HR-01

The HR-01 follows our classic tradition of Light N Easy. It's light in that it's only 520g without a fan. It's easy in that you don't need to take out your motherboard to install, or uninstall any part of your computer setup. But that is not the best part! For those of you who cannot stand the noise produced by howling cooling fans, you will definitely love this. It works as a passive cooling system. That means no fan! And no fan equals any noise produced by your CPU cooler.

What about performance?

Due to the greater surface area and to the newly developed, proprietary ventilation design, the HR-01 is able to absorb more heat and dissipates it more efficiently, with good case cooling and case housekeeping than most of other high-end passive coolers in the market.

For those of you who like living on the edge, in particular, all you overclockers (you know who you are), you'll be glad to know that our HR-01 will take any abuse you can dish out. So turn up the juice! Another ultimate cooling solution, the HR-01 from Thermalright will once again save the day.
Now the question we're asking you is,”Going…up?”
