Brag: 5GHz+ again, with another CPU, on stock cooler!!!

Woah, just a couple of weeks ago, I managed to push my Intel® Celeron® D 352 3.2GHz to 5GHz+ on air on stock cooler, and now, I reached it again. I used an Intel® D975XBX2 and a value DDR2-800MHz RAM for some OC loving, I never expected this CPU to break 4.2GHz. Expand if you want to read the full story...


However, this time around, it's not a cheap Celery, but more like an entry level Intel® Pentium® 4 641. This processor is based on Cedar Mill, which is the same core as that of the 5GHz Celery. I always thought that Cedar Mill is the way to go for obscene high clocks, and I have proven it twice already.

Sure, it's not enough data, but hey, two CPUs which are boxed and retail already shows 5GHz is not only relegated for those who use high end phase change cooler, but even to those stock cooler user on air. Brag: Intel® Pentium® 4 641 (3.2GHz)@4.56GHz

I failed to post my overclocking fun run with another Cedar Mill. Recently, I overclocked an Intel® Celeron® D 352 to an amazing 5GHz on stock cooler. I figure, since that Cedar Mill based processor overclocked nicely, I decided to just pop up open another box of processor based on that core. I chose Intel® Pentium® 4 641 for its high 16x multiplier, since at just 250MHz FSB, I'll be able to reach 4GHz.

This is the first goal, reach 4GHz. Second goal, reach it using stock vCore. Third goal, reach it using stock cooler. Now some would argue that using stock vCore equals using stock cooler. Well, you have to take into account that from stock of 3.2GHz, I will be pushing it to 4GHz and that's something that will usually drive temperature a little too high for comfort, necessitating the need for a better cooler.

Anyway, to cut the long story short, I reached all three goals very easily and it wasn't even a challenge at all. Pushing it till 4.3GHz is stable, however, at 4.4GHz, I needed to pump up the vCore to 1.4v. I remained at this vCore even at this final speed of 4.56GHz.

Do note that at this speed, I did a lot of test, the same testing with my Intel® Celeron® D 352. And it turned out very very stable, no hiccups whatsoever. At this time, I ran out of time to push it beyond that. While this is absolutely not the highest the processor can run, I am amazed that even the full blown Intel® Pentium® 4 641 can reach an amazing speed with just 1.4v of vCore at stock cooler.

My verdict? Well, if you aren't really into Conroe, then this is one processor that is a bang for the buck. Hobbyist overclockers will definitely have a lot of good time trying to high clock frequency with this processor too. And since they have 2MB of L2 cache, they're great performer as well compared to Intel® Celeron® D 352. Go get one, if only to have fun with it :), and oh, test set up is the same as my Intel® Celeron® D 352, except of coure, the CPU.

Brag: P4 631@8000mhz (8GHz)

An overclocker group named Thugs has taken the world record overclock of an Intel processor in terms of pure clock frequency, highest overclock for that processor, and highest FSB for the same processor. Article: Yesterday's Greatest versus Today's Lowest (Intel® Pentium® 4 3.4GHz Extreme Edition and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6300)

I almost forgot posting this article, due to the issues I've encountered with the site lately. I have completed labeling all my posts, from yesterday to the very first day. I can't believe I've gone thru all of it, but it's far from complete, I'll have to recheck the labels just to make sure it's accurate.


Anyway, during the holiday season, I manage to get spare time to play with an old and new CPU. I pit the once latest and greatest to the current entry level mainstream processor. Check it out if you're feeling nostalgic...



It is now year 2007, and we already know that Intel has been killing pretty much all benchmarks available to enthusiasts in the desk top world. Enthusiasts are now looking forward to an affordable quad core, which is currently available only to the cream of the crop users. In 2006, much has changed in the Chipzilla line of products. This year saw the launching of so many products from Intel. This year is when Chipzilla migrated from being a CPU company, into a platform company. They have launched many great products, and in this year, they have launched a new uA that shook the world, and changed the computing landscape forever. Quad Core is now the buzzword in the enthusiast segment, even before Dual Core computing became the universal mantra. Eight way computing is already a reality on the high-end server segment, and this can be achieved at an amazingly lower priced, relatively speaking, compared to a couple years back. And this octa-core computing with just two physical sockets, which is an achievement itself.

Overclock: Overclocking the Intel® Pentium® 4 506 Processor

I actually finished testing all these stuff for quite some time but I haven't uploaded all the necessary files on the server as well as on the CPU-Z Validation database. So now that I have time, I uploaded all the files and uploaded the review material on my hosting. The processor is quite good, suicide shot at 4GHz at stock voltage and stock fan.

The Intel® Pentium® 4 506 Processor is based on 90nm technology, sporting the Prescot core on the LGA775 package. As many enthusiasts will noticed, this processor core is not the latest release, in fact, it's been in the market for quite a while. However this is also the very reason to have a look and see on how this core matures and performs under overclocking stress.

Primarily geared on the mainstream market, it is designed to deliver performance across usages—such as image processing, video content creation, games and multimedia—where end-users can truly appreciate the performance. It has great features for digital home computing, such as support for EM64T to enable the system to address more than 4GB of system memory and advance security functionality thru Execute Disable Bit that can prevent certain classes of malicious "buffer overflow" attacks when combined with a supporting operating system.

Brag: Intel® Pentium® 4 631(Cedar Mill) 5.51Ghz on air

Holy smoke, a 5.51Ghz on air, from a measly 3.0Ghz stock. By the way, if you don't know how to map processor number to Ghz and features, check the FanBoy tools at the right side of this site. The processor details listed there is always up to date. The Cedar Mill core (single core 65nm CPU) currently available are lookin' good everyday!

Seems like my plan to order five(5) Intel® Pentium® D 930 will be beefed up with another five(5) Intel® Pentium® 4 631. The new cores are much colder compared to the Prescott big brother and they eat much lesser power. It's no wonder they'll overclock like there's no tomorrow. I have tested the early samples, and man, they do rock the boat.

Anyway, I'm getting too carried away. The info came from the so called TeamJapan, as listed on his Blog site (Google translated). And from the looks of it, he attained 4.8Ghz from the *drum roll* stock vCore. He did use a Thermalright XP-120, but it is still on air. Subcooling should definitely bring it to uber OCing spree. Is it time to see 8Ghz already? Well, we can always drool and hoped for the best!
You think, but you do not understand at all something it is not too enormous, whether the fact that it is which rank is high tolerance. (Laughing)
Present condition, 631 is not cost performance highest, probably will be?
Simply, it is regrettable for ×14 time not to be possible.
